Introduction to CHEDS (Dr.David Woodhouse)
The context for the CHEDS data collection, including UAE Vision 2021; diversity of UAE HE system; CHEDS responsibilities; project team; reference group; the way data becomes information and evidence; characteristics, use, benefits and drawbacks of indicators; and models for quality improvement.
Introduction to the indicators (Dr.Mohammed Djeddi)
The CHEDS indicator set, including subjective and objective judgements; evidence for performance; selecting a set of indicators for academic programs, research and innovation, learning environment, human capital, and governance. The interrelation of the indicators in each of these five areas is described, with some examples of their use.
Outline of data elements (McSean Thompson)
The data elements from which the CHEDS indicators will be calculated is grouped under five areas, namely enrolment, finance, graduation, human resources and institution. CHEDS has certain expectations of institutions, and conversely offers a range of supporting activities and systems to institutions. Also mentioned are the security of the data and the value of CHEDS to the institutions.
National Research Foundation Buhooth Al Emarat) (Nada Kadhim)
This presentation describes the National Research Foundation and the Buhooth Al Emarat initiative. These are not part of CHEDS, but CHEDS invited this presentation at the introductory meetings to stress that CHEDS is willing to co-operate with other data gathering bodies as possible if it is helpful to the institutions.
